Join us for the Leprechaun Race, a 5K run and walk in Reno, Nevada through the Midtown and Wells Avenue districts. It is family friendly. This is a great first 5K for new runners. Costumes are encouraged.

Yes, there will be a speedy leprechaun in the race. The leprechaun will start after everyone else has begun, giving everyone a generous head start. If you beat the leprechaun across the finish line, you will win a special prize.

Don't despair if the leprechaun beats you to the finish. For every runner and walker who the leprechaun passes, the leprechaun's pot of gold will grow in size. Who will benefit from the increased pot of gold? The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery), who is Race178's non profit partner in the event.

Course Details

The course showcases two of Reno's most vibrant neighborhoods: Midtown and Wells Avenue. The course should be fast, mostly flat with lots of long straightaways and no dramatic climbs. The course will use the following streets: Stewart, Wells, Pueblo, Holcomb and Center.

The start and finish will be located adjacent to The Discovery located at 490 South Center Street. There is an out and back section on Holcomb. Do you know how many out and back sections there were on the 2012 London Olympic Marathon course? View a map of our course, as well as the location for event parking Sunday. The course will be closed to all vehicular traffic.

Event Parking

Please park in the county parking lot across from the Washoe County Courthouse. You can enter the parking lot off of Sierra, Court and South Virginia streets. From there it is a short walk to The Discovery.


In an effort to keep entry fees low, a shirt is not included in your registration. If you would like a commemorative Lenny the Leprechaun cotton shirt, you may order one for an additional $6.


The top 3 female and male in each age group will receive a Race178 water bottle. First place in each age group will also win a free entry into the Journal Jog. The age groups will be 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.

Packet Pick-Up


Packet pick-up will take place on Friday, March 13 from 3-7 PM and Saturday, March 14 from 11-3 PM at Sippee's (955 South Virginia Street). Sippee's is located on the corner of South Virginia and Martin, in the heart of Midtown Reno.

You are eligible for one draft beer or glass of wine at the special price of $3. In addition, you are eligible to receive 10% off to-go purchases. You need to show your race number to take advantage of these deals. Craft is located at 22 Martin Street right across from Sippee's. Thanks to Ty Martin, the owner of Craft! Ty and his family will be racing the Leprechaun on Sunday morning.

Post-Race Beer Garden

Ceol Irish Pub

The official post-race beer garden will be at Ceol Irish Pub, 538 S. Virginia Street.
